    Hi Wishbone,

I was going to head to the Allegan Shelter Friday morning to help with the influx of dogs. I am not a professional in the animal field, but am willing to clean cages or anything they may need including clerical work. I don’t want to ad to the chaos that seems to be unfolding at the shelter. Is there someting I could do on your end to help? I know you guys must be just as busy. If so, let me know. I would like to help anyway I can. If your set on volunteers, don’t worry about getting back with me, I know you folks are swamped right now!!
Have a great day!! Keep up the good work!!!

      Hello Jill -

Thanks we will still need help. We’ve checked in all the dogs, groomers have finished clipping away all the filth, and we’ve begun transferring many of them to other shelters for adoption. But we still need to clean, feed, and medicate them daily. Come on out!

  • Carrie Blauwkamp:

Hello, I was at the shelter in Allegan to help. I am able to foster puppies without a mom. Please contact me 616-836-3616
I also will be checking with the shelter.

  • We are a licensed 501c3 pet rescue, Roll Over Animal Rescue (ROAR) in Chicagoland. We would love to rescue some of your dogs. We left a message on Tuesday and just hope to reach out again, I can email our docs, we simply need someone to let us know what you need to for us to supply. Thanks, Maria

    • admin:

Hello Maria – I apologize for the slow response. We were overwhelmed by phone calls, e-mails, and hundreds of volunteers in response to our shout out for help. I greatly appreciate your offer and we quite likely would have contacted you had I found your inquiry earlier. Rest assured all the Shih Tzus that arrived that way are on their way to new homes.

Our community is small and our adoption rate reflects that. So we transfer close to 50% of our cats and dogs to other shelters and rescue groups to keep them safe. If you have any interest in partnering with our shelter I can put you in touch with our adoption coordinator.

  • Diana Steketee:

    Hi Wishbone folks!

I work with low-income folks in Allegan County and frequently come across pets who aren’t spayed or neutered because people don’t have adequate income. Next thing I know, there are puppies or kittens… Are you aware of anyone in the area who has funding available to provide these services at a significant discount? Most of my folks could come up with $10 or $15 but often not much more.

    Thanks!

    • admin:

      Hi Diana -

Yes, Wishbone operates a monthly low cost spay neuter clinic. The location changes from month to month. You get information at wishbonepetrescue.com. Watch the event calendar for the next date and location. Typical costs are $45-$65, depending on spay or neuter. However, we can subsidize up to 100% of the costs for many people.
